Costa Rica’s PVP denounces double standard in the UN regarding Cuba

San Jose, Sep 30 (Prensa Latina) The Costa Rica's Partido Vanguardia Popular (PVP) today accused the government of maintaining a hypocritical foreign policy toward Cuba and other Central American nations that is submitted to foreign services interest.

According to the political group, the Executive questioned before the UN the application of human rights in the Caribbean island, Nicaragua and Venezuela, but remained silent in the face of the effects of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on the Antillean nation.

During the United Nations High-Level Segment, the government led by Laura Fernandez defended the severing of diplomatic relations with Havana “instead of promoting the dialogue it claims to defend,” denounced the PVP in a statement.

The text disseminated on social media, pointed out the ambiguity of the speechdiscourse in the meeting held recently at the headquarters of the multilateral body in New York, where it showed two “deeply contradictory faces” of its diplomatic approach towards its Central American and Caribbean neighbors.

According to the content, in the United Nations’s plenary, Costa Rica spoke about peace, human rights, dignity, protection of vulnerable people, environment and strengthening of institutions.

However, inside the house he applies policies that precisely hit these rights, manifested in the wage freeze, cuts and weakening of public services, attacks on education and social security, rising cost of living and abandonment of thousands of families, points out the statement.

In this context, the political force called “very serious” the use of that international tribune to “reproduce a selective foreign policy aligned with the geopolitical interests of the United States”, at the expense of defending human dignity.

The PVP also lamented Costa Rica’s “self-inclusion” in the US initiative, called Shield of the Americas, aimed at “destabilizing governments, allowing armament, war and death on our continent.”

Costa Rica became independent from Spain 205 years ago, but today it is the United States’ spokesperson and once again places the yoke of servitude on the nation, emphasizes the message.
