According to the publication *Livornopress*, with this move, Tuscany reaffirms its foundational values of peace and international solidarity, committing the Regional Council to initiate urgent operational measures focused on sourcing and shipping medical equipment.
“The approval of this motion demonstrates that Tuscany does not intend to remain indifferent to an economic blockade—illegal under international law—that has lasted for over sixty years and is currently hitting the most vulnerable sectors of the population hard,” stated Massimiliano Ghimenti, a regional councilor for Tuscany, according to the report. He stated that his country “owes a deep debt of gratitude to Cuba, because during the most critical moment of the COVID-19 pandemic, it sent medical brigades to Crema and Turin to save lives, and continues to provide support with around 400 medical specialists in Calabria.”
Now it is Tuscany’s turn to reciprocate: “Support through expressions of solidarity and support through concrete actions,” said the AVS representative.
He noted that the Regional Council would immediately coordinate with local health authorities in Tuscany to secure health protection supplies and identify medical machinery and devices that could be sent to the Caribbean nation.
“This is a crucial measure that combines international solidarity with sustainable resources; we will enable the shipment of vital resources to Cuban hospitals,” said Ghimenti, expressing pride that the commission had shared the political and moral responsibility championed by AVS.
Green and Left Alliance members Lorenzo Falchi, Diletta Fallani, and Massimiliano Ghimenti agreed that providing healthcare facilities and medical equipment is a positive step toward restoring hope to the Cuban people and reaffirming Tuscany’s role as a land of cooperation and rights.
