This will be the first time that Their Majesties will travel to these Spanish cities, which are currently at the center of a migration crisis following the influx of more than 72,000 irregular migrants from Morocco on July 30 and 31.
Upon arriving at the Congress of Deputies, where presiding over the opening of the 12th Ibero-American Parliamentary Forum, Felipe VI expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming trip to Ceuta and Melilla, a visit agreed upon with the Government of President Pedro Sanchez.
Details regarding the monarchs’ agenda during their stays in the autonomous cities have not yet been released.
To date, the only royal visit to both cities since the monarchy was restored was that of Juan Carlos I and Sofía on November 6 and 7, 2007.
