Indigenous peoples fighting for “Good Living” across the Americas issued a statement informing that Sunday general elections in that South American nation will determine not only the presidency and vice-presidency but also the continent’s future direction.
They stated that US imperialism, under the aegis of the so-called “Donroe” doctrine, has deployed an open strategy of neocolonial interventionism to boost the far-right at the polls and forge alliances with like-minded governments throughout the region.
Social, labor, feminist, indigenous, and grassroots organizations from more than 16 countries described how interventionism has manifested in Brazil through tariff pressures and threats to challenge election results.
They underscored that this open destabilization campaign seeks to favor the candidacy of the political heir to an authoritarian former president (Jair Bolsonaro) who, after losing the elections, attempted a coup d’etat in 2023.
They strongly denounced and condemned the political and warmongering maneuvers and the media campaigns seeking to advance the neocolonial and imperial interests of the networks of complicity linking corporations, national elites, and organized crime.
