Chile: Festival decries US blockade on Cuba and genocide in Gaza

Santiago, Chile, Oct 4 (Prensa Latina) The Festival of Music, Human Rights, Democracy, and Art (MUDA), taking place in this nation, condemned the inhumane US blockade on Cuba and the genocide committed by Israel against the population of Gaza.

The “Thought Tent” addressed the situation in a panel titled “Escaping Barbarism,” featuring Daniel Jadue, Communist leader and former mayor of the Recoleta commune, and Wendy Garcia, coordinator of the grassroots communication team at Cuba’s Martin Luther King Center.

When asked about the forms barbarism currently takes, Jadue cited the situation in Gaza Strip as an example, where more than 74,000 Palestinians have been killed due to Israeli airstrikes. At the same time, Tel Aviv continues its attacks and blockade.

Wendy Garcia, in turn, noted that when the suffering of others fails to move us, barbarism is winning part of the battle.

Garcia, who holds a B.A. in Social Communication at the University of Havana, spoke about the complex moment her country is experiencing.

Since January 2026, the administration of US President Donald Trump has imposed a series of laws and executive orders that have impeded all oil trade with the Caribbean nation, alongside other coercive measures.
