Iran sets conditions for reopening Strait of Hormuz

Tehran, Oct 4 (Prensa Latina) Iran will not reopen the Strait of Hormuz until the United States accepts Tehran's conditions, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf affirmed.

Ghalibaf stated during a parliamentary session that Washington must move away from unilateral demands and affirmed that Iran’s stance over the strategic maritime passage is final.

“The Strait of Hormuz will not be opened until the seven conditions presented by Iran are met,” the official said, without publicly detailing the terms.

Ghalibaf’s stance occurs following a proposal Tehran presented in September to reopen the strait within seven days, provided Washington accepted certain measures, including ending the naval blockade and easing sanctions on Iranian oil exports.

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said then the proposal had been conveyed to the United States via intermediaries and reopening the strait was part of a roadmap also aimed at resuming negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program.
