The figure was released by the ministry’s Department of Families, Commemoration, and Heritage to mark the third anniversary of the conflict’s onset.
The tally includes personnel from the Army, Police, General Security Service (Shin Bet), Prison Service, fire and rescue services, security coordinators, and members of rapid response teams.
According to the Ministry, the fatalities occurred across various operational theaters, including Gaza Strip, southern and northern Israel, Lebanon, and the West Bank.
The institution specified that its record covers security force members who died since October 7, 2023—including in circumstances not necessarily involving combat—in accordance with the official counting methodology used.
The National Insurance Institute also reported that tens of thousands of people have been recognized as victims of hostile acts and are receiving various forms of state assistance, although the categories and timeframes included in those records differ from those used to tally security forces.
On the other side of the conflict, Palestinian health authorities report tens of thousands of deaths and injuries in Gaza Strip since October 2023, alongside widespread destruction of housing and infrastructure. These figures are based on Palestinian records and do not constitute an independent count.
