Administering this test to newborns in neonatal units within the provincial capital and the municipalities of Moa, Banes, and Mayari allows for the early diagnosis of hearing disorders just 48 hours after birth.
Solangel Toirac, a specialist in speech-language pathology and audiology at the Vladimir Ilich Lenin Genera Teaching Hospital, highlighted that early detection is crucial for preventing potential delays in cognitive development and ensuring a better quality of life for infants.
The program is being bolstered in the eastern region through the use of four high-precision units donated by the solidarity organization MediCuba-Switzerland.
