Dozens of representatives from various groups gathered in front of the statue of Colonel Francisco Alberto Caamano Deno, displaying banners with messages such as “Cuba has the right to live in peace,” “No to the energy blockade against Cuba,” and “We reject US military intervention against Cuba.”
Participants denounced Washington’s economic, commercial, and financial blockade against the island, as well as the “maximum pressure” measures that—they claimed—seek to strangle the Cuban economy and punish its population, while also targeting third countries, companies, and individuals maintaining legitimate ties with the island.
In a statement read during the event, the PCT maintained that the administration of US President Donald Trump has launched a global offensive—with a particular impact on Latin America and the Caribbean—aimed at leftist, revolutionary, and progressive governments.
The party denounced that these policies seek to increase countries’ dependency, weaken their sovereignty, and eliminate hard-won rights.
It also condemned actions against the Palestinian people, the targeting of Venezuela’s constitutional president, Nicolás Maduro, and legislator Cilia Flores, as well as Washington’s interference in the internal affairs and electoral processes of Colombia, Peru, Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, and Brazil, among other nations.
Speaking to Prensa Latina, Maria Teresa Cabrera, president of the Broad Front (Frente Amplio) party, stated that Cuba poses no threat to any country—”least of all to the empire”—and maintained that the blockade lacks justification and must end.
