The initiative is backed by the Continental Network of Solidarity with Cuba—coordinated from this city in Santa Fe province by communist leader Norberto Galiotti—and the International Committee in Defense of Che and Culture, led by Jesus Rivero, Prensa Latina has learned.
Various political, social, and cultural organizations have joined in support of the project, opposing the intention of far-right politicians to tear down the monument dedicated to Ernesto (Che) Guevara and rename the plaza that bears his name and pays him tribute.
Specifically, they reject the proposal made by local councilors from the *La Libertad Avanza* (LLA) bloc, who have the backing of national deputy and LLA president for Santa Fe province, Romina Diez.
The presentation of this draft proposal in defense of Che joins a broad mobilization of social, political, and cultural groups that have called for an “Anti-Imperialist Forum” this coming Sunday in the plaza honoring him, under the slogan: “Rosario Defends Che Guevara: The city where he was born has stood up to defend his memory.”
In addition to Perez Esquivel, Rivero, and Galiotti, other signatories of the draft proposal include Lois Perez Leira, regional coordinator of Sovintern for Latin America and the Caribbean, and Julio Cesar Gambina, an economist with the Autonomous Workers’ Central of Argentina (CTA-A).
