“Yes, we agree with him,” Peskov told reporters, referring to a statement by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio that there are currently no prospects for a diplomatic solution in Ukraine.
In September, the United States once again undertook mediation efforts on a solution in Ukraine. US special envoy Steve Witkoff and entrepreneur Jared Kushner visited Moscow and Kyiv to talk about possible ways to end the conflict.
On October 1, President Vladimir Putin stated that Moscow wants the fighting in Ukraine to end as soon as possible through a peaceful solution. While Russia is willing to negotiate, the president added, it sees no such willingness on the Ukrainian government’s side.
Peskov remembered the statements by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who threatened a 40-day operation against Russia, as clear evidence that Kyiv is unwilling to move toward a peaceful solution.
Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova earlier affirmed that Zelensky’s threats to carry out a 40-day operation against Russia show, in her view, the terrorist nature of the Ukrainian authorities.
