ECLAC close in the Dominican Republic with regional agreements

Santo Domingo, Oct 10 (Prensa Latina) The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) concluded its 41st session in the Dominican Republic with the approval of resolutions to boost regional development.

During the closing ceremony, Dominican Minister of Foreign Affairs Victor Ito Bisono PP stated that the meeting’s results would serve as a reference for defining lines of work and translating consensus into concrete initiatives to address the challenges facing Latin America and the Caribbean.

He highlighted that the discussions underscored the need to steer connectivity and digital transformation toward increasing productivity, fostering innovation, and creating opportunities, as well as strengthening the macroeconomic framework for development.

They also showed the importance of mobilizing domestic resources, improving the quality of public spending, ensuring fiscal sustainability, and expanding access to financing under favorable conditions, he emphasized.

Bisono stated that the Dominican Republic, upon assuming the ECLAC presidency for the 2026–2028 term, will boost the active participation of governments, the private sector, and civil society in fulfilling that agenda.

Among the agreements adopted is the Santiago de los Caballeros Resolution, through which member states took note of the documents “Managing Transformations in an Era of Disruptions” and “Disruptions and Opportunities: Proposals for Latin America and the Caribbean to Prosper in the New Geopolitical Era,” which were examined during the sessions.

The resolution tasks the ECLAC Executive Secretariat with conducting studies and formulating public policy proposals—in collaboration with governments that request them—to strengthen national capacities and contribute to sustainable development.
