Latin American peoples’ forum held in Bolivia

La Paz, Oct 10 (Prensa Latina) Delegations from various countries have arrived in the Bolivian city of Cochabamba to participate in the international forum of Latin American peoples, which runs from today until next Monday, event organizers reported.

At the gathering—dubbed RUNASUR 2026 and bringing together delegations in the municipality of Villa Tunari from countries such as Argentina, Chile, and Brazil, as well as the host nation—participants looks for strengthening regional integration and the coordination of social organizations across the continent, sources stated.

In addition to solidifying cooperation agreements, the event seeks to strengthen bonds of solidarity among participating nations and boost unity among social organizations in the face of the region’s current political, economic, and social challenges.

According to Radio Kausachuncoca.com, the three-day gathering features a varied program that includes working groups and multilateral debates, where delegation members will address issues of common interest to Latin American peoples.

Upon arriving in Cochabamba, Cecilia Olivares—a participant in RUNASUR 2026 and a leader of the Federation of University Professionals in Chile’s Health Services—denounced the budget cuts and layoffs affecting that sector in her country.

She explained that the situation following the rise to power of the current right-wing government led by President Jose Antonio Kast has created difficulties for both health workers and the public relying on these services.

After warning about the reduction of resources for Chile’s healthcare system—including a shortage of medicines—the health professional leader expressed concern regarding the potential closure or reduction of capacity at 80 hospitals across the country.
