The mobilization was led by the National Popular Coordinating Body (CPN) and brought together representatives from the eastern provinces of La Altagracia, El Seibo, Hato Mayor, San Pedro de Macoris, and La Romana, according to reports released about the event.
Under the slogan “The Cry of the Excluded,” demonstrators marched through the streets of Higuey, demanding responses to problems that, according to the organizers, have affected communities in the region for years.
During the protest, participants chanted slogans such as “United, we will never be defeated!” and displayed banners demanding freedom of association, wage increases and indexation, and the defense of the population’s rights.
Farmers also demanded access to land for their productive activities, while community organizations insisted on the need to improve water supplies, healthcare, and housing conditions.
Participating groups included the Jesus Adon Popular Bloc, the Class-Conscious Workers’ Union Confederation (UCT), and the National Commission on Human Rights (CNDH).
The CNDH expressed appreciation for the participation of men and women in the mobilization and stated that the event demonstrated the communities’ readiness to defend their rights.
