In the central State of Mexico, the head of the executive branch launched the Rosario Castellanos National University’s Nicolas Romero Academic Unit. This facility will provide space for 800 students across seven bachelor’s degree programs, including Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, and Accounting and Finance.
“We created a bachelor’s degree scholarship called the Gertrudis Bocanegra; it provides support for transportation, just like the Benito Juarez scholarship they received at the upper secondary level. So, the Gertrudis Bocanegra scholarship is coming for everyone, too,” she said during the event.
The president noted that her administration’s goal is to build more high schools to create 400,000 new spots in upper secondary education, as well as more university campuses, aiming for a total of over 350,000 places in higher education.
Regarding the unit built in the municipality of Nicolas Romero, she pointed out that the 400 applicants who did not secure a spot in the in-person program would begin their studies via distance learning; she also announced the construction of a new Margarita Maza high school.
Alma Herrera, Rector of the Rosario Castellanos National University, highlighted that students filled all available spots in the campus’s seven degree programs in just four days, prompting an announcement that academic offerings would soon be expanded to accommodate more students.
According to official data, by the end of 2026, the Universidad Nacional Rosario Castellanos will have 13 new academic units across the country with 119,280 students, in addition to the 239 campuses of the Universidad del Bienestar Benito Juarez, which serve 285,000 students.
