The beneficiary this time was the Joaquin Paneca Consuegra Hospital in Yaguajay, Sancti Spiritus province. The project was the result of a massive outpouring of cooperation and solidarity from friends in Luxembourg, Belgium, France, Spain, Germany, and Albania.
This broad wave of solidarity—as noted by both the Cuban embassy in Belgium and a report in the *Escambray* newspaper—made it possible to finally install a 90-kilowatt solar power system using an array of panels and batteries.
As reported by *Escambray*, the initiative began with a Cuban couple—Nancy Santana Sospedra and her husband, Ismael Ramos—who, along with other compatriots, organized a fundraising campaign via WhatsApp to purchase the solar equipment for the hospital.
Vital support for this mobilization came from Belgian organizations dedicated to solidarity with Cuba, such as Cubanismo, Friends of Cuba, and the Belgian Coordinator for the Lifting of the Blockade.
The Latin American Solidarity Coordinator in Belgium also participated, as did activists and leaders from the Workers’ Party of Belgium.
Diplomatic sources also highlighted the contributions of numerous individual donors who gave this gesture a deeply personal and familial touch; among them, Belgian nationals Toon Danhieux and Bea Vandewalle deserve special recognition.
Cuba’s ambassador to Belgium, Juan Antonio Fernandez Palacios, stated that “in the face of the silent genocide with which Washington attempts to suffocate and subdue us, the solidarity and love of men and women of good will—who stand with Cuba today—have prevailed.”
