Colombians protesters oppose De la Espriella’s policies

Bogota, Oct 14 (Prensa Latina) Groups aligned with the party Pacto Historico (Historic Pact-PH), along with members of labor unions and student collectives, rally in several Colombian cities against President Abelardo de la Espriella's policies.

Less than 10 weeks after De la Espriella took office, the leading demands focus on defending labor rights, public education, and social gains achieved under the previous administration, such as the minimum wage increase. In Bogota, organizers have asked participants to gather at the National Park to walk to Bolivar Square, where former President Gustavo Petro (2022-2026) is expected to lead the march.

Protests are also expected in Riohacha, Armenia, Bucaramanga, Cali, Ibague, Neiva, Pereira, Manizales, and Medellin.

Less than 12 hours before the protests began, the far-right head of State signed a decree modifying the protocols for the police forces’ conduct during social protests.

Senate opposition leader Ivan Cepeda affirmed that no Government can expect the people to remain silent in the face of decisions that seriously affect their rights.
