Israeli forces destroy abandoned barracks in southern Syria

Damascus, Oct 13 (Prensa Latina) The Israeli army destroyed an abandoned military barracks in the Damascus countryside and conducted an incursion with six military vehicles into the southern Syrian province of Quneitra, state broadcaster Al-Ikhbariya reported.

According to the channel, Israeli forces blew up an abandoned military facility at Tal Harbun, near the town of Beit Jinn, on the western outskirts of the Syrian capital.

In a separate incident, a contingent comprising six military vehicles advanced toward the area south of the town of Al-Rafid, in Quneitra Governorate.

During the incursion, troops prevented local residents from digging foundations for construction projects, the outlet added, without providing further details.

The incursions take place amidst frequent Israeli military operations in southern Syria and calls from Damascus for the withdrawal of Israeli forces and an end to actions it considers violations of its sovereignty.

Last Friday, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights reported that it had documented around 280 armed Israeli incursions into Syria during September—the highest monthly figure since the beginning of the year. The agency also noted that at least 49 Syrians remained in Israeli custody; all of this is occurring following the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s government on December 8, 2024.
