In an open letter to the Federal Court in that US city, the women joined in “this initiative of sisterhood” to seek her provisional release or house arrest on health grounds, after Judge Alvin Hellerstein denied her request for bail.
The text, signed by more than 11,700 women, noted that Flores has been under the New York court’s jurisdiction since January 3, when she was “abducted amid an airstrike and taken to US territory,” along with her husband, Constitutional President Nicolas Maduro.
The signatories announced firm support for the defense’s request, asking that the “first combatant” be allowed to remain under house arrest and receive “appropriate cardiology care to her state of health and physical well-being.”
On July 22, Maduro and Cilia appeared at a third hearing before the Federal Court in Manhattan, New York, where Judge Hellerstein ordered their trial begin on June 1, 2027.
