The Creative Grant—awarded by the Villa Clara provincial chapter of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC)—was granted to Marta Elizabeth Laguna Enriquez (from Havana) in the essay category for her work, *Cimarronaje y afrociencia* (“Marronage and Afro-science”). In the novel category, the award went to *La última marea de plata* (“The Last Silver Tide”) by Amilcar Rodriguez Cal, a native of Villa Clara. The competition, which reached its 30th edition this year, also saw the presentation of the Poetry Prize to the work *Revelaciones, pasada la medianoche, a un amigo entranable* (“Revelations, Past Midnight, to a Dear Friend”) by Villa Clara-based writer Luis Perez de Castro.
Both the grant and the poetry award recognize literary creation and encourage the completion of unpublished projects; they also serve as an opportunity for writers—across a diverse range of genres and styles—to contribute to the nation’s culture.
The presentation of the “Ciudad del Che” Literary Award by UNEAC is part of the activities honoring Ernesto Guevara de la Serna this October, which marks 29 years since the arrival of his mortal remains—along with those of his fellow combatants—in Santa Clara.
