Sayyari said on national television, cited by IRNA, that Iranian forces have full capability to monitor and control this strategic maritime route.
He stated, “The Strait of Hormuz is closed. If not, oil would continue to flow through it, and gasoline prices in the United States would not have risen.”
The official explained that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy keeps a presence in the strait’s western sector, and the Iranian Army Navy operates in the eastern sector and the northern region of the Sea of Oman.
Regarding vessels intending to transit the area, Sayyari insisted that such passage must be coordinated with Iranian military authorities, and he warned of the consequences of doing so without authorization.
This dispute is unfolding amid tensions ignited by strikes conducted by the United States and Israel on Iran on February 28, to which Tehran responded with actions targeting Israel and US interests in several Arab countries.
