The drive brought together participants from various sectors—including members of the National Union of Students (UNE), grassroots organizations, and figures from the cultural sphere—during the final stretch of the campaign for the runoff election.
A key figure at the event was singer-songwriter Chico Buarque, a well-known supporter of the president’s candidacy; he addressed the crowd from a truck equipped for public speaking and spent time interacting with his followers.
UNE president Bianca Borges stated that the student movement is mobilizing in defense of democracy, national sovereignty, public education, and social rights—goals she linked to the continuation of the current administration.
Speaking to TV 247 during the event, Borges warned of the risks that a potential victory for the Liberal Party candidate—Flavio Bolsonaro—would, in her view, pose to Brazilian universities.
The student leader cautioned against possible budget cuts and criticized an approach that, she argued, would subordinate the role of universities to the interests of the productive sector—to the detriment of freedom of thought, critical education, and the emancipation of students.
Brasilia, Salvador, Belo Horizonte, Recife, Porto Alegre, and other cities are hosting events in support of the president, while similar gatherings have also been announced in various locations across Europe and the United States.
