According to the schedule released by the president’s team, the walk passes along Magalhaes de Almeida and Guaxenduba avenues, and brings together Maranhao Governor Carlos Brandao, political leaders, lawmakers, and representatives from allied political forces.
Lula will later travel to the Sao Francisco Valley region to participate in another walk.
Bahia Governor Jeronimo Rodrigues, political leaders from both states, including senators Rui Costa, Jaques Wagner, Humberto Costa, and Marilia Arraes, and Joao Campos, president of the Brazilian Socialist Party, are expected to attend the walk.
Both events are part of a campaign titled “Brasil Pronto pra Mais” (“Brazil Ready for More”), organized in support of Lula’s candidacy for the October 25 runoff.
Lula is competing in the runoff against Senator Flavio Bolsonaro, of the Liberal Party (PL), in a race defined by disagreements on economic policy, social programs, and the direction of the country’s foreign relations.
Sunday’s runoff will determine who will hold the Brazilian presidency for the next four years.
