Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning affirmed that the Arctic concerns the international community’s general interests and that all countries’ rights and freedoms must be fully respected to conduct activities in the area, in accordance with international law.
Mao noted that China’s activities in the region aim to boost peace, stability, and sustainable development.
The spokesperson underscored that resorting to a Cold War mentality to form blocs and provoke geopolitical confrontations does not contribute to the region’s peace, stability, or development.
This diplomatic institution’s response follows statements by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas, who warned of the need to prevent Russia and China from dominating Arctic maritime routes.
