Mexican project to benefit food production in Cuba

Ciego de Avila, Cuba, Oct 21 (Prensa Latina) Approximately 1,500 agricultural producers in Ciego de Avila province are set to benefit from the project "Sembrando Vida" (Sowing Life) —a cooperation initiative between Mexico and Cuba.

This second stage of the program, which focuses on social well-being, food self-sufficiency, and sustainable development, is sponsored by the Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation (AMEXCID). It will directly support farmers in the region engaged in livestock and crop production.

AMEXCID Executive Director Alejandra del Moral Vela explained that the initiative involves providing agricultural inputs, high-quality seeds, technology, and technical training, all aimed at strengthening local productive capacities.

She noted that this initiative shows the bonds of solidarity and brotherhood between the two nations, and is intended to bolster food production and improve the quality of life for the Cuban people in the face of the intensifying United States blockade.

“We have not come to simply hand things out; we have come to strengthen what you have learned over generations,” said Del Moral Vela.

The second phase of the “Sembrando Vida” project extends to eight Cuban provinces, following its initial implementation in 2023, when it benefited producers in the provinces of Artemisa and Mayabeque, in the western part of the Caribbean nation.
