The United States government, through its Secretary of State Marco Rubio, is resorting to blackmail and economic and financial threats to undermine support for Cuba ahead of the upcoming presentation of a resolution against the US blockade at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
On October 27-28, the international forum is scheduled to debate and once again vote on a draft resolution condemning this hostile policy from Washington, intensified to an extreme degree by the administration of US President Donald Trump.
The URCA posted on digital platforms, “We call upon the honorable governments of the world, solidarity organizations, Cuban residents abroad, and the supportive people of Argentina not to yield to imperial blackmail, and back the Cuban resolution once again with greater strength than ever before.”
Cuban residents in Argentina support the statements made by Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez, who denounced the unusual moves by the US Department of State.
The URCA concludes, “The blockade is not ‘propaganda,’ as the Department of State cynically labels it. The blockade is true; it is genocidal; is the primary obstacle to our people’s development; and flagrantly violates international law as well as the human rights of more than 10 million Cubans.”
