Masadykov told reporters, “In principle, they have de facto already withdrawn themselves. The CSTO sends all documents to Armenia for domestic approval; in response, the Armenian side does not participate in discussions or decision-making, but does not oppose them either.”
“They are not obstructing our work; the work continues, and we are making decisions,” the CSTO secretary general added, noting that while Armenian representatives listen to weekly briefings, they do not participate in its main activities.
In August, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced his country’s intention to leave the CSTO, should it become necessary.
Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Armenian authorities have the right to decide independently whether or not to leave the organization.
