In a statement the Guatemala chapter delivered to Prensa Latina, the alliance underscored that the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) will once again vote on a draft resolution concerning this arbitrary measure on October 27-28.
It remembered that the proposal is titled “Necessity of Ending the Economic, Commercial, and Financial Blockade Imposed by the United States of America against Cuba,” first officially presented for debate in 1992.
The statement described how, in addition to a more than six-decade-long siege, there is now an energy blockade, which involves intercepting fuel tankers and financial sanctions that even affect the private sector, alongside a campaign by Washington that describes Cuba as a “threat” to its security.
It pointed out that the unilateral economic, commercial, and financial actions imposed by the United States have a devastating effect on the economy, society, and families of the Caribbean nation.
The General Assembly annually puts a draft resolution to a vote, which has received support of an overwhelming majority of member states for 33 consecutive years.
