Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning remembered that on October 25, 1971, the General Assembly adopted Resolution 2758 by an overwhelming majority, which restored all the legitimate rights of the People’s Republic of China within the international organization.
Mao noted that this event marked the return of one-quarter of the human population to the global stage. She underscored the deep significance of this milestone for China, the world, and the United Nations.
The diplomat expressed the Chinese people’s gratitude toward the countries and individuals who provided support at that time, and affirmed that Beijing has acted as a builder of world peace over these five decades.
She pointed out that the Asian nation is a contributor to global development and a defender of the international order. China firmly supports the central role of the UN in international affairs, the official noted.
She added that the government participates actively in all areas of the organization’s work and faithfully fulfills its responsibilities as a permanent member of the Security Council.
Furthermore, she emphasized that the nation boosts common security and shared development through this multilateral platform, while fostering dialogue among civilizations and the reform of the global governance system.
