Cubans in Nicaragua demand end to U.S. blockade

Managua, Oct 24 (Prensa Latina) The community of Cubans residing in Nicaragua has condemned the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba and called for an end to this unilateral policy.

In a statement released on social media—as part of an international campaign opposing sanctions against the island—Cubans living in this Central American nation described the U.S. measures as a mechanism of economic pressure.

The group stated that this blockade, which has persisted for more than six decades, affects the population’s living conditions and takes a particularly heavy toll on families.

“It is the most massive, flagrant, and systematic violation of the human rights of an entire people, aiming to force their submission through hunger, scarcity, and disease, by means of indiscriminate actions and measures that harm our families, children, the elderly, and the most vulnerable sectors,” they emphasized.

Furthermore, they expressed concern over the tightening of restrictions and the difficulties in accessing fuel and other resources, which has impacted healthcare services and the daily lives of the Cuban people.

The document also questioned the diplomatic pressure exerted by Washington on other governments, intended to influence their positions during the upcoming United Nations General Assembly vote on a resolution calling for an end to the blockade.

The signatories expressed their hope that the international community will once again overwhelmingly support the resolution, and they reaffirmed their commitment to defending Cuba’s sovereignty and right to self-determination.

They demanded the immediate and unconditional lifting of the blockade, the removal of Cuba from the U.S. list of state sponsors of terrorism, and respect for the Cuban people’s right to determine their own future in peace.
