The Ministry of Defense reported that current conditions do not justify extraordinary measures, although authorities keep constant vigilance regarding possible repercussions of the situation in Haiti on national security.
Defense Minister Lieutenant General Carlos Antonio Fernandez Onofre led an evaluation meeting with the commanding generals of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, as well as with intelligence and operations officials from the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Directors from the Specialized Corps for Land Border Security (CESFRONT) and the Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Cybersecurity, and Intelligence Center (C5i) of the Ministry of Defense also participated in the meeting.
According to the institution, the Armed Forces and other relevant state agencies will keep on sharing information to assess potential scenarios and determine if preventive measures are necessary.
The Ministry of Defense stated that decisions will be made based on evolving events and security and defense criteria, with the aim of preserving sovereignty and territorial integrity without unnecessarily disrupting the lives of border communities.
The meeting is part of the coordination and monitoring mechanisms maintained by local authorities in response to the situation in the country, which is experiencing a severe crisis of violence, with armed gangs controlling large areas, security force operations, and deteriorating humanitarian conditions.
