While officially opening the 12th Tana High-Level Forum on Security in Africa in the city of Bahir Dar (Amhara region), Ahmed emphasized that, through a commitment to the National Dialogue, the country remains ready to welcome all those who choose the path of peace.
He explained that the philosophy of Medemer (Amharic for “synergy”) “reminds us that our strength lies in pooling our capabilities and developing solutions rooted in our own realities.”
He suggested that it is possible to build a more resilient, peaceful, and prosperous continent, while simultaneously taking a more active role in shaping the world that future generations will inherit.
The forum is taking place from October 23 to 25 under the theme “Pathways to Peace in Africa: Economic Sovereignty and Geopolitical Transformation.
Regarding the central theme, the Ethiopian head of government stated that it “addresses a reality we cannot ignore: decisions made far beyond our borders can affect our citizens, our economic prospects, and our security.”
He acknowledged that while not all impacts can be controlled, resilience can be strengthened. For Africa, this entails developing homegrown solutions, reinforcing economic sovereignty, and deepening cooperation.
