Marino Murillo Jorge, president of the business group that oversees the production of this export commodity nationwide, confirmed the organization’s strong performance during a provincial tobacco sector plenary session held in the Villa Clara municipality of Placetas.
Murillo Jorge noted that, in addition to tobacco production, “La Estrella” has diversified its operations by cultivating food crops and developing livestock farming.
According to local media, this province in central Cuba has set a production target covering approximately 1,900 hectares—equivalent to more than 2,000 tons of tobacco—for this year, with the participation of producers from the neighboring province of Cienfuegos.
Furthermore, authorities highlighted the use of solar energy in tobacco production—the most significant agricultural export commodity for Cuba.
The meeting was attended by Felix Duartes Ortega, a member of the Party’s Central Committee and president of the National Association of Cuban Farmers (ANAP); Milaxy Yanet Sanchez Armas, Governor of Villa Clara; and Antonio Subi Perez, the top representative for the sector in the province.
The core business of the “La Estrella” tobacco company, located in central Cuba, involves the commercialization of processed raw tobacco and the provision of agricultural services.
