Iara Pimentel, a representative of the party in Montes Claros, in the state of Minas Gerais, was struck in the face by a brick thrown at the sound truck she was in during a mobilization, as reported by the news outlets Metropoles and Poder 360.
The victim received care from the Mobile Emergency Care Service (SAMU) and was taken to a hospital, where she remained under observation, receiving medication and undergoing medical examinations, according to a statement from her press team released on social media.
The attack took place on Avenida Sanitaria, while Lula supporters were holding a caravan on the eve of this Sunday’s election.
According to accounts, bricks, stones, and glass bottles were thrown at the participants.
Images shared on social media showed men wearing clothing referencing Senator Flavio Bolsonaro—a presidential candidate for the Liberal Party and a rival of Lula—throwing objects at the sound truck.
Federal Deputy Paulo Guedes, a PT member from Minas Gerais who was participating in the event, denounced the attacks and called for a rigorous investigation to identify those responsible and hold them accountable before the law.
Pimentel’s team condemned the incident, warning that political violence poses a threat to democracy.
