Grushko asserted that the EU, in its proposals for the final parameters of a resolution to the conflict in Ukraine, demanded the restoration of the 1992 borders, the payment of reparations by Russia, the “punishment of those responsible,” and the deployment of foreign forces on Ukrainian territory or Ukraine’s accession to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
The deputy foreign minister said, “If one wants peace, the first thing to do is to stop supporting the regime. In fact, the stance they have expressed on the final parameters of an agreement practically excludes the Europeans from this process.”
The senior diplomat noted that the EU’s current policy aims to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia, contain it, deprive it of development resources, and disrupt its strategic communications.
The EU has reportedly considered participating in negotiations on the Ukrainian conflict to influence the United States’ stance toward Russia.
