This measure was established via Ordinance 1,313/2026, published in the Official Gazette of the Federal Government. It mandates that these agents work alongside the Federal Police to conduct patrols, keep public order, and protect both individuals and property.
The operation is part of the “Amazon: Security and Sovereignty” plan—a Brazilian government initiative designed to strengthen state presence and security operations in this strategic region in the north of the country.
According to the directive, these activities will be carried out in coordination with public security agencies in the state of Amazonas, with the goal of increasing operational capacity in a sensitive border zone to combat transnational crime.
The number of personnel to be deployed for the mission has not yet been determined.
The Directorate of the National Public Security Force—which falls under the National Secretariat of Public Security within the Ministry of Justice and Public Security—will establish the size of the contingent based on operational planning.
As reported by Agencia Brasil, Tabatinga is one of the key strategic points along Brazil’s Amazonian border.
Its geographic location makes it a critical area for efforts to prevent and combat illicit activities that cross national borders.
Crimes of concern to authorities in this region include drug trafficking, smuggling, and environmental offenses—all of which pose significant challenges for surveillance and the protection of natural resources.
The joint operation between the National Public Security Force and the Federal Police is part of a broader effort to coordinate the various institutions responsible for security within Brazilian territory.
