Cuba denounces the impact of the blockade on the legal system

Havana, Oct 26 (Prensa Latina) The United States blockade also affects the population in Cuba that requires legal services; energy and technological limitations hinder processes that were once carried out quickly, but now take weeks to complete.

This was stated by Jose Alexis Ginarte, president of the National Union of Jurists of Cuba, in remarks to Prensa Latina—just days before the United Nations General Assembly vote on the resolution that Havana presents annually to demand an end to this measure.

According to the expert, the blockade significantly limits the development of his sector—not only regarding the training of students and the delivery of courses, postgraduate programs, seminars, and workshops, but also in the ability to provide prompt responses to conflicts and ensure adequate service to the public.

He also pointed to difficulties related to the mobility of legal professionals—including judges, prosecutors, lawyers, notaries, consultants, and professors—who, on many occasions, must find their own means of transportation to carry out their professional duties.

Furthermore, he denounced the limitations on accessing specialized information, caused by connectivity issues and the inability to use numerous international databases.

Regarding the legal implications of the blockade, he emphasized that it is an inherently illegal measure; first and foremost, the United States government has no authority to impose norms or rules that other states must follow.

Moreover, it cannot impose on any government specific ways of thinking, acting, or behaving, nor can it limit the sovereignty and independence of nations, he maintained.

Every state, he noted, possesses the right to self-determination, sovereignty, and economic development, in accordance with the principles and purposes enshrined in the United Nations Charter.
