Speaking on behalf of the Group during the 34th presentation of the draft resolution titled “Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States of America against Cuba” before the UN General Assembly, Eritrea warned of an unprecedented intensification of this extraterritorial policy.
“We must speak up in favor of respecting peace and the prohibition of the use—or threat of the use—of force. It must be reiterated that the blockade must be brought to an end without delay; it is contrary not only to the purposes and principles of this organization but also to international humanitarian law,” the representative stated.
The Group admitted that while the General Assembly has repeatedly passed resolutions calling for an end to the blockade, the core message has remained consistent and clear: the Cuban people have the right to shape their own future, free from any pressure or interference.
Reaffirming the Group’s long-standing, principled position, the representative expressed unequivocal solidarity with the Cuban people and government.
The Group of Friends in Defense of the Charter of the United Nations condemned, in the strongest possible terms, the implementation of additional measures to strengthen the blockade, the disruption of fuel supplies, and the negative impact on economic and commercial relations between Havana and third-party states.
The Group of Friends in Defense of the Charter of the United Nations expressed its unwavering solidarity with the people and government of Cuba and urged the international community to echo the General Assembly’s call for the lifting of the commercial, financial, and economic blockade imposed by the United States.
