In a radio interview, the Uruguayan labor leader remarked that the Brazilian elections were set to determine whether or not a trend would take hold in which Latin America became “tinged with neo-fascism.”
He emphasized that the victory of the Workers’ Party leader opens up a “democratic perspective” and paves the way for a series of public policy reforms for the benefit of the people.
Regarding warnings about interference via digital platforms—allegedly originating from the United States—he noted that “de facto powers and various forms of interference” were at play throughout “the entire process.”
Therefore, he asserted, Lula’s victory stands as an “heroic act” by the Brazilian people, who managed to “chart a course” despite foreign intervention via social media networks.
He highlighted that Lula da Silva’s electoral campaign clearly championed issues such as the importance of investment for universal access to education, the expansion of university education, a gender-conscious perspective, and the reduction of the workweek.
He suggested that the election results in the neighboring country represent a “favorable wind” for Uruguay—one that should be seized upon.
“It is a source of pride” and “enormous joy” that a son of the working class has become president for the fourth time, he remarked on the program *Panorama Informativo* on *La Diaria Radio*.
