Macron announces measures in response to social crisis in France

Paris, Oct 26 (Prensa Latina) French President Emmanuel Macron announced measures to address the challenge of social unrest, with further nationwide mobilizations against the rising cost of living.

Macron called for a crisis response focused on three priorities: strengthening the protection of individuals, businesses, and public buildings; providing support to affected merchants and artisans; and addressing the social grievances fueling the protests.

In Marseille, he announced that the State would keep an aid fund—supported by contributions from local authorities and the private sector—while also seeking assistance from insurance companies.

Regarding the mobilizations planned for Saturday the 31st, Macron advocated for keeping the police presence capable of ensuring security, protecting urban centers, and allowing for peaceful demonstrations.

He also suggested that planned trade union marches should take place outside of city centers.

He admitted that, on October 17, authorities had failed to anticipate the scale of the mobilization or the presence of violent groups among peaceful protesters, while asserting that the security measures in place this past Saturday were better prepared.

The French president admits that the crisis has social and political roots linked to student protests and the rising cost of living—issues that, in his view, require dialogue and political solutions.
