In a statement, the group noted that the diplomat’s remarks from the previous day constitute an affront to the dignity of the Cuban people and a distortion of reality.
In the statement—which Prensa Latina reached at —the organization pointed out that, during the UN General Assembly debate on a draft resolution calling for an end to the U.S. siege against the island, Waltz denied the existence of the blockade, labeling it a “fiction.”
The AMCRP challenged these claims, contrasting them with statements by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who has acknowledged the tightening of measures against Cuba and the implementation of sanctions, the group noted.
The text emphasized that the blockade does not merely affect the Cuban government; rather, it has a direct impact on the general population and on essential sectors such as healthcare, food, transportation, and education.
Furthermore, the group criticized accusations leveled against Cuban authorities regarding the economic difficulties facing the country, and expressed its support for the response given by the island’s delegation to the General Assembly.
In particular, the organization reaffirmed its support for Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez, who rejected the U.S. representative’s assertions and defended his country’s position within the multilateral forum.
The AMCRP reiterated its demand that Washington end its policy of hostility toward Cuba and lift the economic, commercial, and financial blockade, while also calling for respect for national sovereignty and the right of all peoples to determine their own destiny.
