Sri Lankan newspaper highlights Cuba’s dignity at UN

Colombo, Oct 28 (Prensa Latina) Lanka Leader stressed the dignity Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez displayed in response to the fallacies presented at the United Nations by US representative Mike Waltz, who sought to justify the illegal blockade against the Caribbean nation.

The newspaper highlighted that during a debate at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) y on a draft resolution calling for an end to the economic, commercial, and financial blockade against the island, Rodriguez, through a point of order, accused the United States government of resorting to falsehoods, pressuring member states, and showing disrespect toward the Cuban people and government.

Addressing Waltz directly, the Cuban foreign minister challenged his arguments during the session:

“Mr. Waltz: you are lying again. I hope you perform better in your future political roles on the National Security Council, because here, at the United Nations, your performance is very poor. Familiarize yourself better with the document you have in your hands before you come to read it,” the news outlet reported.

The publication emphasized that the head of Cuban diplomacy rejected attempts to divert attention from the session’s central issue, the US blockade, by addressing accusations that he dismissed as groundless.

Lanka Leader noted that the head of the United States delegation began his remarks with a history lesson so creative that it portrayed Ronald Reagan threatening the Cuban people in 1979 when he was not yet president, as he took office in 1981.
