In response to an announcement by the US Department of Homeland Security on October 28, China’s Commerce Ministry affirmed that forced labor does not exist in the country.
The Chinese side said several ethnic groups in Xinjiang enjoy freedom and equality in employment, and labor rights are protected by law.
The Ministry described the US measures as lacking any factual basis, accusing Washington of using human rights to implement unilateral protectionist policies and bullying practices.
The country voiced strong condemnation and firm opposition to those actions.
China has consistently rejected such allegations, asserting that the policies implemented in Xinjiang are intended to combat terrorism and radicalization, while also fostering the socioeconomic development of the region’s population.
