Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Guo Jiakun affirmed that the blockade and unilateral US sanctions have caused immense suffering for the Cuban people.

Guo noted that, since 1992, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) has passed, for 34 consecutive years, resolutions demanding the lifting of the economic, commercial, and financial siege against Cuba, with the backing of an overwhelming majority.

The spokesperson said these votes reflect the vast majority of nations’ rejection of serious violations by the United States of the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter.

He also underscored that the international community is calling for an immediate end to these coercive measures, which, he stated, severely infringe upon the Cuban people’s right to subsistence and development.

China will continue to support the defense of Cuba’s sovereignty and national dignity, as well as its opposition to external interference and the blockade, Guo affirmed.
