This year’s 34th vote was marked by a wave of pressure, intimidation, and blackmail directed at many UN member states by the US Government.
Ambassador Pedro Luis Pedroso Cuesta, a member of the Cuban delegation, told Prensa Latina, “I feel deeply proud because, once again, our country, and ultimately our people, for whom we work, has seen the support that our great resistance garners within the international community.”
Pedroso Cuesta highlighted the support this cause received at the United Nations, even amid malicious campaigns and intense pressure and blackmail exerted against member states.
The Cuban ambassador underscored, “It was a clear, resounding victory, an overwhelming show of support from the international community against the US blockade. It acknowledges not only its illegitimacy and illegality but also how this policy affects other states, beyond the harm it causes to Cuba.”
Addressing the plenary session on Wednesday, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, leading the Cuban delegation, condemned the aggression against his country, noting that it includes “a fuel blockade, tantamount to a naval blockade, which is an act of war, an act of collective punishment, and genocide, all of which are prohibited under international law.”
The resolution was approved with 130 votes for, 17 against, and 25 abstentions.
