“Cuba yes, Yankees no!” — a rallying cry heard in Venezuela event

Caracas, Oct 29 (Prensa Latina) — With chants of "Cuba yes, Yankees no!", hundreds of Venezuelans and Cubans gathered in Caracas to celebrate the island's victory in its struggle against the blockade—a cause that once again received overwhelming global support at the United Nations.

Supporters, lawmakers, political leaders from the Great Patriotic Pole, officials from the Libertador Bolivarian Municipal Council, the Simon Bolivar Institute for Peace and Solidarity Among Peoples (ISB), and the Cuban State Mission in Venezuela took part in the solidarity event.

A statement released by the Municipal Council expressed support for the United Nations General Assembly resolution calling for an end to the illegal blockade against Cuba, in recognition of “the dignity and sovereignty of the Cuban people.”

During his remarks, city councilor Alexander Berroteran stated that the blockade is an expression of imperialist policy—a non-military form of aggression that nonetheless constitutes an act of ongoing war against nations, like Cuba, that are determined to be free. He noted that Cuba “has been an example of dignity and solidarity to the world.”

Lidice Altuve, vice president of the ISB, remarked that Venezuelans understand the hardships caused by the blockade, and highlighted that Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez served as a dignified voice for the peoples of the world.

Meanwhile, Yhonny Garcia, national coordinator of the Friendship and Mutual Solidarity Movement between Caracas and Havana, described the outcome at the UN today as “a great victory for the Cuban people, supported by the peoples of the world.”

García announced that the 15th National Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba will be held in the state of Merida from November 27 to 29. The event will be dedicated to the centenary of the birth of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro.

Gretel Alfonso, the second-in-command of the Cuban mission in Caracas, expressed her gratitude for the love and “steadfast support from Venezuela—something we celebrate every year around this time.”
