From the Cuban embassy in Managua, those present followed the UN General Assembly vote, in which the majority of member states once again supported the lifting of the economic, commercial, and financial embargo imposed by Washington more than six decades ago.
Following the vote, Cuba’s ambassador to Nicaragua, Iliana Fonseca, highlighted the overwhelming support from the international community for the Cuban people’s struggle against this policy.
She expressed gratitude for the sustained solidarity and noted that the U.S. measures constitute a form of collective punishment that continues to affect the island’s population.
The diplomat affirmed that the condemnation of the blockade must continue as long as its consequences persist, and she thanked the people and government of Nicaragua for their support.
Meanwhile, the Palestinian ambassador in Managua, Majed Abualhawa, described the outcome as a historic victory, despite the pressures and blackmail that he stated are exerted by the U.S. government.
Additionally, Rafael Antonio Cano—a Nicaraguan and friend of Cuba—congratulated the people and government of the island, reaffirming his commitment to continue supporting solidarity efforts with the Caribbean nation.
“The United States claims there is no blockade, but it does exist—it is real; it is an irrational policy that affects the entire Cuban population,” he emphasized.
