Marcos Oliveira, director of Monitor Mercantil newspaper, said the Belt and Road News Network (BRNN) has expanded cooperation among its members and strengthened information exchange and mutual understanding between peoples.
During the BRNN Council meeting, Oliveira highlighted the management and secretariat’s work to link media and strengthen friendship ties between the Global South civilizations.
He warned that new technologies are transforming journalistic practice and how societies perceive the world, but also warned of controlling information in big tech companies.
Marcia Carmo, of the Brazil 247 news portal, told Prensa Latina that one of the leading journalistic challenges is to confront fake news and the power of big tech companies.
Carmo noted that Brazil’s experience during the presidential campaign and after President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva’s re-election highlighted the importance of understanding the role of those platforms and adopting measures against their influence.
Both representatives participated in the Belt and Road Media Forum, which brings together journalistic professionals and organizations from more than 100 countries and regions in the Chinese province of Fujian to exchange experiences and boost international media cooperation.
