Camaguey: Historian’s Office focus on Summer Cultural Program

Camaguey, Cuba, July 3 (PL) The Historian's Office of Camaguey launches its summer program with workshops, tours, and cultural activities, focusing on resilience in the face of the economic and energy difficulties affecting Cuba today.

Jose Rodriguez, director of the institution, highlighted the team effort to offer an accessible program, coordinated by the local Government and the Transportation Department, focused on alleviating shortages through sound recreation and promoting heritage.

The plan, which builds on previous experiences, includes visits to agroecological farms, children’s workshops, and activities for people with disabilities, many of which are free of charge, except for long-distance tours. Non-state economic actors are also taking part.

Thematic areas include local history, environment, and biotechnology, with tours starting July 15 supported by the Recreation Commission, in plazas such as Agramonte Park, El Gallo, and Coppelia.

The agenda celebrates key dates: July 7, the anniversary of the city’s declaration as a World Heritage Site, with school activities highlighting its technical record and universal value.

On July 10, national poet Nicolas Guillen will be honored, while the third Sunday of July will be dedicated to children, together with UNICEF, and Jose Marin Varona Hall will host concerts on July 21.

On July 30, Martyrs of the Nation Day, solemn events will be held. The Cabildo’s Andante and Tras la Huella routes will explore cultural roots, along with workshops for children and young people.

Institutions such as the Cultural Management Center and Cuba’s Veteran Association are collaborating on initiatives for senior citizens, while the use of renewable energy at events is being promoted.
