“It is important to emphasize that the uniqueness of a group like BRICS is that it is a group of nations that share common approaches and a common point of view on how to cooperate based on their own interests,” the Kremlin spokesman told the press.
The Russian official’s statements respond to the announcement made the day before by US President Donald Trump, who threatened to introduce an additional 10% tariff against states that support the association’s policy.
“Any country that aligns itself with the anti-American policies of the BRICS will be required to pay an additional 10% tariff. There will be no exceptions to this policy,” the White House resident posted on his Truth Social network, ahead of the 17th BRICS summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
This is not the first time the US president has made threats against the integrationist group.
